Greer Middle College Charter High School appealed on Wednesday in front of the SCHSL Executive Panel to be dropped from Class 3-A to 2-A.

The SCHSL denied GMC's appeal by a vote of 8-7.

GMC athletic leadership cited lack of competitiveness in several major sports including basketball and volleyball, where teams are currently a combined 5-32 in region play. The consistent need for running clocks in timed games was mentioned.

The student body at GMC, leadership argued, is misrepresented due to the 3x multiplier.

GMC can appeal the decision in front of the SCHSL Appellate Panel on Friday.
