For Byrnes rising senior cornerback Aidyn Wiggins, his stock is trending up. Way up.
And it’s happening fast.
Wiggins is the Rebels’ shutdown corner, lining up week-in and week-out against each team’s top wideout. He established himself as one of the top defensive backs in the Upstate as a junior.
That impressive season in 2025 has earned Wiggins not only accolades within his region and team. It’s helped earn him an incredible 16 Division 1 offers within the last three months.
“It’s rewarding to see all of this happening,” said Wiggins. “Because I know I’ve put in the work, now I’m seeing all of it pay off.”
On Friday, Wiggins received offer No. 16 while visiting the University of South Florida. The Bulls became one of several teams to extend scholarship offers to Wiggins, who has seen attention from numerous Power Four schools since the new year began.
Duke was the first Power Four school to offer back in February. After that, the dominoes began to fall, as Cincinnati, NC State, and Kansas State soon followed.
Earlier this week, Wiggins had the chance to meet University of North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick while visiting campus. Wiggins left that visit with an offer from the Tar Heels — something he said was an “amazing” feeling.
“It was such a great experience going up there, meeting Coach [Bill and Brian] Belichick, as well as Coach ‘Mondo’ [Armond Hawkins, Jr.],” said Wiggins. “I love the way they do things and the way they talk. They’re great guys.”
Wiggins is pulling double duty this semester for the Rebels, competing with Byrnes track-and-field while also taking constant visits to colleges interested in bringing him onto their football programs.
But Wiggins knows he’s in a spot he used to pray for, and he wouldn’t trade it for the world.
“There are some days when I’ve got to take off early from school or take my schoolwork with me,” said Wiggins, smiling. “It’s been heavy the last couple of weeks. But I love doing these visits, and I love the position I’m in.
“I saw myself in this spot when I was younger. I dreamed of this. But now that I’m actually here and doing this, it's all surreal.”
