Pettit, who graduated from Riverside in 2005, served as the athletic director for his alma mater from 2019-24. He was hired in 2024 to be the athletic director at Chapman High School.

In January, he will step into a new, expanded role leading athletics throughout all of Greenville County.

It is filled with great people that I can't wait it go back to work with. I'm a byproduct of GCS and I’m blessed to have to opportunity to serve my community in this role. Greenville County can be the standard and I hope to lead them there."

Pettit will take over in January, succeeding longtime GCS athletic director Darryl Nance.

"Darryl Nance has done an exceptional job as district athletic director," said Pettit. "He was in that position when I started as an AD, and he is not only a role model for my career, but also a good friend.

"Point blank: I have big shoes to fill. I hope to expand on many of the initiatives he started, as well as put on my fingerprint on a few things. I hope to make him proud in this position."
