Riverside High School’s Ella McGrath is the GreerNews.com Athlete of the Week, presented by D&D Motors.
Voting opened Monday and remained open until noon on Wednesday. Voters were able to cast a ballot once per day during the campaign.
Nominees for the week of September 22-28 included McGrath, Tucker Hudson of Greer, Mitchell Bobbitt of Blue Ridge, and Darcy O'Sullivan of Eastside.
Last week, McGrath rallied from a set down against Byrnes, coming back to win her second set 6–0. She went on to win the match tiebreaker 10–3 to win the match and help the Lady Warriors emerge victorious.
"Ella is typically our line three, but in this match, she was playing line two," said Riverside girls tennis coach Erin Benfield. "To come from a set down while playing a line up shows mental strength as well as skill. She is a true warrior."
GreerNews.com Athlete of the Week is a weekly initiative that will run 32 weeks during the 2025-2026 school year. Athletes from Greer, Byrnes, Riverside, Eastside, Greer Middle College, and Blue Ridge are eligible.
