Eastside High School’s Lucas Tankersley is the GreerNews.com Athlete of the Week, presented by D&D Motors.
Voting opened Monday and remained open until noon on Wednesday. Voters were able to cast a ballot once per day during the campaign.
Nominees for the week of September 15-21 included Tankersley, Eliana Wade of Byrnes, and Calvin McCoy of Greer.
Tankersley rushed for 229 yards and three touchdowns against Spartanburg, including a 20-yard TD run in the second quarter that saw the senior RB break multiple tackles on his way to the score.
"I was able to cut it back, and from there, it’s ‘Who wants to go down with me?’ Once I drop my shoulder, nobody can really take me down,” said Tankersley. “I just keep that mentality and try to run through somebody’s face.”
“The whole state of South Carolina learned who Lucas Tankersley is [Friday night],” said Eastside head coach Andre Woolcock. “I thank God I have a front row seat to the Lucas Tankersley show.”
GreerNews.com Athlete of the Week is a weekly initiative that will run 32 weeks during the 2025-2026 school year. Athletes from Greer, Byrnes, Riverside, Eastside, Greer Middle College, and Blue Ridge are eligible.
