The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) seeks public comment on the action to amend the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program to include the proposed 2026 Vehicular and Vulnerable Road User (VRU) Road Safety Assessment (RSA) project lists.

 Current projects include:

 Vehicular RSA Projects

The RSA lists were ranked using a combination of crash data and injury severity for vehicular crashes.

  • US 29 (Wade Hampton Boulevard) from Watson Road to Morningside Avenue (mile 12.00 to 16.00) in Greenville County

  • US 52 (mile 15.00 to 16.20) and US 17A (mile 17.00-18.00) from north of Gaillard Road to near Dock Road in Berkeley County

SCDOT proposes these projects to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes along the identified corridors. The recommended locations for the 2026 Road Safety Assessment (RSA) lists were selected using statewide crash data.

Preliminary engineering, right of way and construction work for projects on both lists will be funded by the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program. The total anticipated cost for the vehicular RSA projects listed above is $38 million. The total anticipated cost for VRU RSA projects listed above is $35 million.

SCDOT will receive public comment from now through April 30, 2026.
