On Wednesday afternoon, Eastside senior offensive lineman Carter Williams officially signed to play college football at North Greenville University.

Williams, who played at Eastside’s varsity level for all four years of high school, was flanked by his parents in a room full of family and friends.

“I took all of this for granted at first,” said Williams, looking around at the crowd of people there to support him. “This team, this program, it’s a brotherhood, really. It’s a family. Every moment [at Eastside] was great. I’m going to remember this forever.”

“I’m extremely happy for Carter,” said Eastside head football coach Andre Woolcock. “Not only because he’s a great football player. You can go to any school in the state and find those. It’s because he’s an incredible kid… he’s earned this.”

Williams said North Greenville immediately stood out to him for the way its representatives consistently kept in touch with him.

The senior was an anchor for an Eastside offensive line that helped the Eagles rack up over 1,500 rushing yards as a team this past season. Though he suffered a season-ending injury against Gaffney late in the year, NGU kept up with Williams and kept a spot available for him in the program.

Now, Williams is set to be a Trailblazer.

“They were always checking in on me, seeing how I was doing and keeping up with me,” said Williams. “That meant a lot.

“The encouragement and love [North Greenville] showed me along the way, it made it, really, a no-brainer for me.”
