The first phase of construction for a new trail system is currently underway in Greer, bringing a new recreation option to the northern side of the city.
The South Tyger River Greenway Trail will be an ADA-compliant trail consisting of concrete, boardwalks and natural surfacing. According to the city, the greenway will eventually connect Country Club Park, Greer Golf and Greer High School, with the first phase of construction being a 0.7-mile stretch starting at Country Club Park.
Construction teams did encounter weather-related issues earlier this year, resulting in some delays to the project timeline. Damaged trees from Hurricane Helene were removed in February, with concrete pours beginning in April.
This stretch of the trail will have two scenic overlooks with boardwalks, and boardwalk construction began in June. Also in June, Greenville County Council member Kelly Long presented Greer’s Parks, Recreation & Tourism department with a $5,000 check to go toward a trailhead sign and a pollinator garden along the greenway.
The first phase of the trail is expected to be completed in late summer or early fall. For a look at scenes from construction, see the City of Greer’s YouTube page.
