The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees motioned to approve several action items at its Tuesday night meeting.
The Board’s first action item was approving a letter to be sent on behalf of the Board to multiple members of the United States Congress. These included Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, and Reps. William Timmons and Sheri Biggs.
The letter addresses upcoming changes to federal education funding. The Board asks federal officials to provide more clarity into what these changes will look like.
"We also request that you advocate on our behalf for clarity and direction, uninterrupted and uncomplicated delivery of service, and assurances that our students and schools will not be financially or programmatically harmed by changes that are being made," the letter reads. "We are partners with you in ensuring the health and welfare of our educational system, and we enthusiastically await your response and direction."

Other items heard by the Board included the approval of easements for Oakview Elementary School. The first was a sanitary-sewer easement, allowing for a construction agreement between the school and Five Forks Methodist Church.
The agreement will allow the church to install and permanently maintain a sewer pipe underneath land owned by the school district. The easement comes with restrictions, including only allowing construction to occur during the summer and requiring that the church notifies the district before construction begins.
The second easement was an access and parking easement. This is also an agreement between Five Forks Methodist Church and the school district. The easement allows for the district to use part of the church's property for parking and pedestrian traffic, creating access between parcels of district land.Â
Stipulations for the easement include: the district can not use the parking area during church services and major events, and the easement remains in effect only as long as the district property continues to operate as a school.
