The Greer Sports and Events Center is expected to officially open in 2027.

Greer City Council motioned to approve four action items at its last regular meeting of 2025, including the guaranteed maximum price of the City’s Sports and Events Center.

The City broke ground on the Sports and Events Center in August. The project, a part of the City’s Four for Greer initiative, is set to be completed in 2027. At Tuesday night’s meeting, the guaranteed maximum price of the project was set, coming in at $69,334,076.

According to City officials, this price is below their original estimates in February, which were around $72 million. The price point was approved by the Council unanimously.

Council also had one other item of new business, the first and final reading of a resolution approving the distribution of funds obtained through the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund Board. It was unanimously approved that the City would allocate $219,968.00 from its Guaranteed Political Subdivision (GSP) Funds to go to the Faces And Voices Of Recovery Upstate Chapter (FAVOR).

This money will go to help FAVOR increase recovery services in the area, including greater distribution of overdose-reversing drugs, such as Naloxone, and the expansion of warm handoff programs. The distribution of the City’s GSP Funds complies with S.C. Code §11-58-10, and the City will still have $338,818 remaining in its fund for future proposals.

Two items of old business were addressed by Council, including the final authorization for the partial privatization of Park Avenue. The developer of The James apartments, TMG Victor Park Owner, LLC, requested the privatization following a difficulty with the development’s water supply.

Council approved the ordinance 6-1, with Council Member Jay Arrowood voting in opposition. A stipulation for the privatization set by Council is that the development must install a gate separating their property from the rest of the street.

Finally, Council had its final reading of Ordinance Number 31-2025, which aims to provide a temporary construction easement to the S.C. Department of Transportation to complete a project at the Suber Road and Chick Springs intersection. The project will widen Suber, adding left turn lanes and sidewalks. Council approved this unanimously.
