The Greer Farmers Market celebrated Watermelon Day on Sunday with its annual Watermelon Seed Spitting Competition, where participants set new distance records.
Here are the 2026 winners:
Adult Division:
1st Place: Unknown participant, 24 feet.
2nd Place: Steven and Alex (tie), 23 feet.
Youth Division:
1st place (teen): Braylon, 19 feet, 4 inches.
1st place (youth): Anna, 16 feet.
Watermelon for the competition was donated by Jackson Farms II, a local farm in Lyman. The farm will return to the Market next week, where it will sell watermelons for anyone looking to practice for next year’s competition.
The next Greer Farmers Market will be on Sunday, Aug. 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Greer City Park.
