Not Riverside’s Richard Jackson.
 
In a crucial 2005 matchup vs perennial power Union County, the standout Riverside kicker lined up from the Union County 47-yard line — and drilled a 64-yard field goal.
 
The kick, to this day, still stands as the longest field goal in SC High School Football history.
 
Jackson, who was on the sidelines yelling “let me try it, Coach!” to then-Riverside HC Don Frost, said getting the win mattered more than the kick.
 
"I told [my team] that even that field goal wouldn't mean a thing if we couldn't go back out and finish the game off," Jackson told David Newton for The Spartanburg Herald-Journal in 2005.
 
The Warriors did just that, defeating Union County, 20-16, in a win that helped jumpstart some of the program’s best years in recent history.
 
Riverside HC Don Frost said he had no second thoughts about sending Jackson out for the kick.
 
Jackson made headlines with his kick that evening and weekend, long before social media was king. He drew an impressive amount of media attention, including being featured by ESPN’s Chris Berman on SportsCenter Top 10.
