The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that two women and one child were found dead following a house fire in Greer.

At around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, the Boiling Springs Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 203 Sugar Creek Lane in Greer. While extinguishing the fire, the coroner notes that responders located three deceased individuals inside the residence.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement partners responded to the scene and initiated a joint investigation. 

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has identified one of the adult females as Julianne Marie Burgess, 57, a resident of the home. Her cause of death has been ruled as inhalation of products of combustion and thermal burns.

The second adult female has been identified as Laura Ellen Brysacz, 70, also a resident of the home. Positive identification was made utilizing radiographic (X-ray) comparison.

The child has been identified as Piper Rubi McCullough, 3, through analysis conducted by the Coroner’s Office DNA analyst. Piper was the great-granddaughter of Laura Brysacz. Her cause of death has also been determined to be inhalation of products of combustion and thermal burns.

Autopsies on all three decedents were completed on Friday. The manner of death remains pending, contingent upon the determination of the cause and origin of the fire.

The Coroner’s Office continues to work closely with fire investigators and law enforcement agencies to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
