The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested Matthew Timothy Walker of Inman on Thursday in connection with an investigation involving the sexual exploitation of a child.

According to Sheriff’s Office officials, the investigation originated from a CyberTip submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the online distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). During the investigation, Walker admitted to purchasing CSAM through an online messaging application, and a forensic examination of a seized device confirmed the presence of such material.

Walker has been charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor in the third degree. Officials say that the investigation remains ongoing and that no further details will be released at this time due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Anyone with information related to crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children is encouraged to contact local law enforcement or report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).
