Greer is getting a little more colorful with a new mural at the gateway of downtown.
The large “Welcome to Greer” mural is on track to be completed by Labor Day. It is located on the side of the Great Bay Oyster House building, near the intersection of Poinsett and Main streets.
“I wanted it to be colorful and bright, because Greer is colorful and bright,” said artist Adam Schrimmer. “Being given the opportunity to put massive paintings in Greer’s common area — I take that very seriously. It’s an amazing opportunity, and I hope the community loves it.”
This is the second mural Schrimmer has created for the city this year. He is also the artist behind the Greer 150 mural on the side of the Davenport building. But while the Davenport mural was made to honor the city’s past, this new mural celebrates its present.
The mural features a depiction of the Historic Greer Depot alongside the words “Welcome to Greer.” Schrimmer said the piece is meant to welcome passersby into downtown, while also giving locals something to be proud of. He said early-morning conversations with residents while painting have been a major inspiration in his work.
“In the mornings, I meet business owners and other locals, and those people make this city,” Schrimmer said. “They are the lifeblood of Greer, and have been a lot of what’s made this project possible.”
