The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged Brendan Gregory Taylor, 28, with Assault & Battery of a High & Aggravated Nature, Criminal Conspiracy and Assault & Battery by Mob in the second degree.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Taylor and at least two other inmates were involved in a premeditated group assault against an employee at the Greenville County Detention Center on March 30, 2025.
Calvin Lee Thompson, Jr. and Tishone Dunlap-Wright were also charged in the incident on Oct. 29, 2025.
The affidavit states the three men participated in a gang-style attack against an individual who suffered blunt force trauma to the abdomen, leading to severe internal bleeding, the removal of the spleen and portions of the pancreas. The individual suffered a cardiac arrest but was resuscitated.
None of the assailants rendered aid or attempted to intervene during the incident.
According to the SLED investigation, Taylor was transferred on April 9, 2025, from the Greenville County Detention Center to the South Carolina Department of Corrections on unrelated charges and remains there at this time.
The case will be prosecuted by the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
