Downtown Greer is getting a little sweeter with the arrival of Scoops and Sweets ice cream shop.
Scoops and Sweets opened at 110 Cannon St. earlier this month. Husband-and-wife duo Leighann and Robert Dill own the shop, which offers scoops, milkshakes, sundaes and more.
“We currently offer 40 flavors of Hershey’s brand ice cream. We have gluten free, dairy free, and we try to be very peanut-conscious, as well,” said Leighann Dill. “So we have lots of flavors, and if there’s something somebody sees that they want, we’ll try to bring it in and switch stuff around.”
Dill says the inspiration to open a shop in Greer came from her great grandfather, who ran his own ice cream shop in Brevard, North Carolina. Both she and her husband continue to work full-time while running Scoops and Sweets — Leighann at a hospital and Robert at a local chemical plant.
“Being in the medical field has really guided our decision to make sure we’re being peanut-allergy friendly,” Dill said. “The allergy is out there, and we need to be conscious of that.”
Some of the shop’s allergy-conscious practices include keeping its ice cream flavors containing peanuts in a separate container and using separate scoops. Serving utensils that come in contact with peanuts are also washed separately, Dill says.
Before Scoops and Sweets opened, the downtown storefront was home to a boutique and salon. Dill says she hopes the shop becomes a place where people come to gather while spending time downtown.
“We’re definitely family oriented,” Dill said. “We are just happy to be a part of Greer and hope to be a good community supporter.”
