The Greer Police Department, in partnership with the City, will host its second annual Trunk-or-Treat on Trade celebration this Sunday, Oct. 26, from 5-7:30 p.m.
According to a spokesperson from the city, the event will feature free Domino’s pizza, a photo booth, touch-a-truck experiences for kids and plenty of candy. Costumes are encouraged, and attendees can vote on their favorite trunk display while at the event.
“Anytime we can bring people together downtown, that has ripple effects for our businesses [and] on the level of community connection,” said Michelle Willis, Director of Communications for the City. “This is just one of those great opportunities for governments not to be scary and really make some meaningful connections with people around the holidays.”
Last year’s inaugural event was a raging success, with officials from the Police Department having to go out to buy more candy after they ran out midway through. This year, the department has spent months prepping for the night, which will have triple the number of trunks as last year.
The event started last year after Amber Chambers, a community engagement officer for Greer Police, brought the idea to the department.
“When we first started Trunk-or-Treat, the goal was simple — to give kids a safe place to have fun and to build positive relationships with first responders,” Chambers said. “Now in our second year, it's great to see how much it's already grown and how excited the community is to be a part of it.”
Some rules to be aware of include no pets, though certified service animals are welcome, no costumes or props that could harm other attendees, and no violent or profane costumes. There will be a few road closures due to the event, beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26. These are the closures to look out for:
Trade St. at Poinsett
Trade St. at Randall (both sides of the intersection)
Trade St. at the Depot
The parking lot at the Depot
