Dre Williams came into his 2018 senior year at Greer already cemented as one of the best RBs in program history. His 1,571-yard, 17-TD campaign as a junior assured that.
But Williams was poised to top his numbers and go bigger as a senior. That’s exactly what he did.
Williams rounded out his Greer career with 2,087 rushing yards and 35 total TDs as a senior, helping Greer capture the Class AAAA Upper State Championship.
“He's definitely one of the best [to come through Greer],” the late Greer DC Travis Perry told Bob Castello of the Greenville News in 2018. “There's no question he has unbelievable talent. His motor runs non-stop. It doesn't matter if it's 5 o'clock in the morning or 5 o'clock in the afternoon. He's wide open all the time."
Williams — who grew up watching former Greer RB Quez Nesbitt run the rock on Dooley Field Friday nights — was also a member of Greer’s 4x100 meter state champion team and was named the Region 2-AAAA Track Athlete of the Year. He’s one of the few players in SC to be named Region Player of the Year for multiple sports during the same year.
After graduating from Greer, Williams went on to enjoy a tremendous football career at nearby North Greenville.
Now, Williams is back at Greer High, teaching special education and coaching WRs, the position he largely played on the backend of his NGU career.
In a long, long, line of legendary Greer RBs, Williams made his mark and stands up right next to all of them — concluding his Greer playing days with one of the best rushing seasons in school history in 2018.
