Scores and notes from Greer-area high-school football games from week one on August 21:
Greer 45, Woodmont 31
In a high-scoring matchup at Dooley Field, Greer prevailed thanks largely to RB Calvin McCoy and QB Xavier Sammet, who combined for 337 rush yards in the win. McCoy also had two interceptions on defense.
St. Joseph's 35, Blue Ridge 21
Despite a solid day through the air by QB Holden Powell and a big receiving day from WR Marquiel Troupe, St. Joseph's triple option proved to be tough for the Tigers to stop, as Blue Ridge fell to 0-1 on the season.
Byrnes 7, Independence 0 (Game called with 6:44 left in 1Q, ruled no contest)
The only real action that took place in this one was when Byrnes senior RB Tre' Segarra took off on a 53-yard TD run just 50 seconds into the game.
The teams played just over five minutes of game time before lightning delayed, and ultimately ended, the contest.
Chapman 26, Eastside 6
In a game that began on Thursday before lightning postponed it to Friday night, Eastside scored first but got nothing going on offense after that.
The Panthers scored the games final 26 points en route to a comfortable week one win.
Greenwood 33, Riverside 7
Facing a tough road opener, Riverside struggled to stop Greenwood's rushing attack on Friday night, falling to 0-1 on the season.
