BASEBALL
Byrnes 8, St. Joseph's 2
Byrnes 7, Eastside 3
Byrnes left fielder Blake Collins collected three hits against St. Joseph's, while Ayden Dempsey and DJ Jones starred for the Rebels against Eastside to propel Byrnes to 3-0 so far at the Steve Sanders Tournament.
Byrnes will finish the tournament Tuesday with a 5 p.m. game against Chesnee at Fifth Third Park in Spartanburg.
Boiling Springs 10, Blue Ridge 0
Greer 2, Pendleton 1 (Feb. 28)
Luke Godfrey had a game to remember over the weekend vs. Pendleton. Godfrey tossed five innings on the mound, striking out nine and allowing no runs.
At the plate, he went 3-5 with two RBIs, including the walk-off RBI in the 10th inning of Greer's win.
SOFTBALL
Blue Ridge 8, Wade Hampton 0
First-year Blue Ridge head coach Jessica Corn got her career off to a blazing start on Monday, as the Lady Tigers cruised to a shutout win over Wade Hampton.
Lily Mulkey pitched an incredible four innings, giving up just two hits and striking out eight. Kilee Grant closed the game with a perfect inning, striking out all three batters she faced.
Bella Ballenger and Madison Jennings both had stellar days at the plate, with Ballenger going 3-3 with three RBIs and Jennings hitting 2-3 with 2 RBIs of her own. Gracie Tompkins added two doubles and an RBI, as well.
Crescent 6, Byrnes 0
BOYS SOCCER
Eastside 9, Spartanburg 0
Six different goal scorers and six different assisters completed a great team effort from the Eagles. The goals didn’t come in spurts, but were distributed over the 80 minutes.
Junior Frazor Kazian had a hat trick with three goals and also added two assists. Ryder Martin and Asher Wilson both added two goals of their own for Eastside in a dominant performance.
"I couldn’t be more proud of the entire team for how they played," said Eastside head coach Stephen Wood. "They worked together from whistle to whistle."
Riverside 4, Boiling Springs 2
The Warriors impressively erased a 2-1 halftime deficit to a talented Bulldogs squad, rallying for a 4-2 win to kick off region play.
Senior forwards Marcus Smith and Will Knight both scored two goals for the Warriors, while freshman Sam Sinclair earned the first assist of his high school career.
Greer 1, Byrnes 1 (Greer wins 4-3 on PKs)
A second half free-kick goal from Isaac Pardo provided Greer a spark, and though the Rebel defense held Greer out of the net late in the second half despite Byrnes being down to 10 men, the Jackets got a big save in the PK shootout from GK Edwin Altamirano to win.
Blue Ridge 5, Landrum 2 (Feb. 27)
Blue Ridge's Noah Long provided a hat trick of goals as the Tigers downed rival Landrum to improve to 2-0 on the season.
GIRLS SOCCER
Eastside 5, Spartanburg 0
Furman commit Jayden Irby tallied two goals and an assist for the Lady Eagles who improved to 5-0 on the season.
Through five games, Eastside girls soccer is still yet to concede a single goal.
Riverside 6, Boiling Springs 0
Piper Grubbs and Landry Franklin both scored two goals each, while Morgan Trezona and Myah Blackwell both added one goal a piece in Riverside's dominant victory.
The victory marked first-year HC Kristin Rollins' first-career region win at Riverside.
TRACK & FIELD
At the Dave Hickman relays over the weekend, Byrnes' track-and-field team of Chanin Harris, Jacobi Fuller, Abram Burroughs and Aidyn Wiggins set the school and meet record for the 4x200 with a time of 1:29.
