Veteran journalist Jon Martin has joined Dunlap Media Group as its new digital sports reporter for GreerNews.com beginning this week.

In the role, Martin will continue GreerNews.com’s coverage of Byrnes, Greer, Eastside, Blue Ridge, Riverside and Greer Middle College with the same multimedia presence readers have come to expect.

“As an Upstate native and second-generation journalist, I’m thrilled to have the chance to tell the stories of this area’s amazing athletes and coaches,” Martin said. “The amount of talent in the Greer footprint is incredible and I’m honored to help showcase it to the world.”

Martin brings more than 20 years of newspaper experience to the job, including stints at The Cherokee Chronicle in Gaffney and The Daily Review in Morgan City, La. He has won 15 awards from the South Carolina and Louisiana Press Associations for writing, photography, page design and social media.

In addition to his work in high school sports, Martin has covered two Sugar Bowl games as well as the NBA, NCAA football and NCAA basketball. Martin was the scoreboard operator for the inaugural season of Minor League Baseball’s Hub City Spartanburgers and is a licensed judge for USA Boxing.

“We’re excited to welcome Jon to the Dunlap Media Group team and bring his experience and passion for sports journalism to GreerNews.com," said Bailey Dunlap, Publisher of GreerNews.com. "Jon’s background, knowledge of high school athletics and award-winning work make him a tremendous addition to our coverage. We’re committed to providing the Greer community with comprehensive coverage of its student-athletes, coaches and teams, and Jon will help us continue to raise that bar.”

Martin’s wife, Kinsey, is the theatre director at Greer High School. He has one daughter, Madison.
