MJ Posey is a senior edge rusher and linebacker for Eastside football. Posey currently holds four offers to play college football and is poised for a big senior season with the Eagles.

GreerNews.com caught up with Posey at Eastside’s media day to talk about his outlook for the 2025 season and favorite memories so far with the Eagles.

Greer News (GN) What gives Eastside football confidence going into the season, especially in one of the state's toughest regions (5A-2)?

MJ Posey (MP): I feel like this year, we’re just really strong all around. We’ve got a great supporting cast. There are a lot of guys in my part of the field who really ease the pressure on me. They help me out and do their thing.

GN: Who are some of those supporting cast members you refer to?

MP: Lucas Tankersley is definitely one of them. That’s my favorite dude to play alongside right now. He’s a linebacker for us. Every time he comes downhill to make a play, it’s like he’s trying to kill someone. He just plays with such a high intensity.

GN: There’s some buzz coming from Eastside’s summer work that this could be a year where the Eagles surprise some folks. What do you think is the reason behind that?

MP: I feel like we’re way more disciplined than we were last year. There’s not as much ego going around. This year, people listen to each other more and are playing more as a team. That’s going to translate to the field. We had a couple of new guys come in, too, and they’re going to help us for sure.

GN: What are you personally looking to prove heading into your senior year?

MP: I want to prove that I’m a D-1 power four college football player. That’s what I want. I want to show people I’m one of the best in the state.

GN: What sort of work have you been putting in this summer to get to your absolute best?

MP: It’s constant work every day. I’m putting in way more work this season than I ever have before. I’ve had no brakes at all. It’s been all about getting stronger and faster each day.

GN: What will you miss the most about your time playing football at Eastside?

MP: I think I’ll miss the brotherhood the most. I have really close friendships with so many of my teammates. They have supported me all throughout high school, and I hope they know I’m just one call away, even when this is all done.
