The Spartanburg County Peaches and Joanna Hornets played back-to-back games in the Blue Ridge Baseball League on Thursday and Friday night, with each team winning at home.
The Peaches took Thursday night’s contest in Inman by a score of 3-1, with Spartanburg County coming out on top in a pitcher’s duel. Ethan Cooker went five strong innings for the Peaches, striking out four and allowing just three hits. Campbell Whitener, Tyler Scott, and Colin Goldsmith all pitched solid innings in relief.
JH Campbell went 2-3 at the plate for the Peaches, while Paul Lee, Jet Cajigas, and Mason Guion drove in early runs to earn Spartanburg County the victory.
The following night, the stage shifted to Clinton High School — Joanna’s home field this season while Joanna Stadium undergoes renovations — for a rematch between the two teams.
This time around, the bats were the story.
The Hornets racked up 10 hits as a team, tallying 11 runs and rallying from an early four-run deficit to beat the Peaches, 11-5.
Wyatt McPherson and Murray Johnson racked up two hits apiece for the Hornets, who also collected eight walks as a team. Hayden Lake and Dubose Rembert led the scoring charge for Joanna, with both batters plating two runs on the evening.
Joanna is back in action on June 21 at 7 p.m. at Clinton High School as the Hornets take on the Davey Crocketts.
Spartanburg Country returns to play on Saturday, June 20, at 7 p.m. with a trip on the road to take on the Greenwood Flying Monkeys.
