Jakorey Dodd is a senior running back and wide receiver for Blue Ridge football. Dodd made waves last season after putting up incredible stats in his final few games of the year. That included a two-touchdown, 140-yard performance at the then-reigning state champions, Daniel.
Now, with his senior season on the horizon, Dodd is looking to build off the momentum and put together his best year yet. GreerNews.com caught up with Dodd at Blue Ridge’s media day to talk about his career so far and the upcoming season.Â
GreerNews.com (GN): Jakorey, going into your senior year, you’re now the guy on offense for Blue Ridge. You’ll have a lot of eyes on you. Does that add any pressure for you?
Jakorey Dodd (JD): Not really. I know that even if I mess up, my teammates have my back and will help pick me back up. What I’m focused on now is just being there for the younger players and trying to help them get better.
GN: What are you hoping to show some of the younger players this year? What’s the example you want to set?
JD: I want them to know that anything is possible. They can do absolutely anything they set their mind to. I want to show them how all of this works and how to improve. Help them learn how to listen and be coachable, because that’s going to take them places.
GN: Who were some of the seniors that you looked up to as a younger player?
JD: I looked up to my brother, Jeremiah, who was in the 2021 class. Then, once I started really playing, I was looking at some of the guys ahead of me at my position on the team. I wanted to see how they played. Once I saw the work they put in, I told myself I had to put in that same hard work. I had to train.
GN: Are you hoping to play in college after this is done?
JD: Absolutely. I want to show the college coaches that I’m coachable, that I can play wherever and do what they need me to do.
GN: What are your expectations as a team this season?Â
JD: If we play as a team and play as one, I don’t think there’s any limit to what we can accomplish. When we all play as a big unit, we can beat anyone who steps in our way.Â
GN: What is your favorite moment or game from your career at Blue Ridge so far?
JD: Last year’s game against Daniel. I felt like I really showed what I was capable of that game.
GN: What do you do in your free time away from football?
JD: I like to go up to North Greenville University with some of my boys, and we play basketball. I live like two minutes from the campus.
GN: Who is the NFL or college player you look up to?
JD: Definitely Travis Hunter.
GN: Go-to pregame hype song?
JD: I Hate Youngboy by NBA Youngboy.Â
GN: What are you going to miss the most about your time at Blue Ridge?
JD: I haven’t processed it much yet, to be honest. It comes and goes. I try to stay in the moment and not think about the fact that this is it. But I’ll really miss the environment here and the people. I’m friends with a lot of these guys off the field.
