This weekend, several Greer-area basketball seniors will be competing in their final high school game.
The Upstate All-Star Games — hosted at Wofford College — will take place on Saturday, March 14.
There will be a girls’ game at 4 p.m. and a boys’ game at 5:30 p.m. The games will feature some of the best senior talent from the Upstate, including an impressive number of Greer-area stars.
Greer-area girls basketball players competing:
Macie Hanley, Blue Ridge
Jaida Johnson, Byrnes
Carolina Turner, Byrnes
Greer-area boys basketball players competing:
Ka’Mauri Campbell, Blue Ridge
Sukhi Singh, Byrnes
Chase Littlefield, Greer (will not play due to medical reasons)
Sebi Boyogueno, Riverside
“We were so excited to put this game on for several reasons,” said David Bentley of Upward Sports — the organization hosting the games. “First and foremost, a platform to share the gospel. We are feeding the kids and will have a speaker share that there’s a God out there who loves them and died for them so that we can spend forever with him. If our lives are centered on basketball, that’s an awfully shaky ground to be based on.
“Secondly, we want to give some of these kids who wish to continue their basketball career an opportunity to be seen by college coaches… We have had several coaches in the region already confirm their attendance.”
Bentley says he’s excited about the high number of Greer-area athletes attending and competing in the games.
“Especially being a Greer alum, I’m super excited that we will have some local flavor in this game because there was a lot of team success in the Greer area this season,” said Bentley. “I’m thrilled those talented kids get one more chance to wear their uniform and play a game.”
Tickets to the game are $10 and will be available at the door on Saturday.
