As the early voting period for the Special Republican Primary concludes, with more than 61,000 votes already cast, the South Carolina Election Commission (SEC) is reminding voters of important information before heading to the polls on Election Day.
Election Day Reminders
The U.S. Senate Special Republican Primary will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Anyone in line before 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
The SEC notes that not every voter will be eligible to vote in this special primary. Voters who participated in the June Democratic Primary are not eligible to vote. Voters who participated in the June Republican Primary, or who did not vote in either party’s June primary, are eligible to vote in this special primary.
Before leaving to cast their ballots, voters should verify their polling locations, as some polling places may have changed for this election. Voters can check their polling location on scVOTES.gov or contact their county voter registration office.
Once at the polling stations, voters will need to present one of the following forms of current and valid Photo IDs when checking in to vote:
S.C. Driver’s License
S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles ID Card
S.C. Voter Registration Card with Photo
Federal Military ID
U.S. Passport

Absentee Voting Reminders
Voters casting an absentee ballot must ensure it is returned to their county voter registration office no later than 7 p.m. on Aug. 11 for it to be counted. These individuals will need to sign the voter’s oath and have the return envelope witnessed by someone at least 18 years old who provides their address.
The SEC recommends voters consider personally delivering their ballots to ensure they arrive on time. Voters may also have an authorized returnee who has completed the authorized returnee form return their ballot for them. A photo ID is required when returning the absentee ballot in person.
