This July, Greenville County Schools All County Theatre Program will be among an elite group nationwide to present "SUFFS: The Young Are at the Gates."
This award-winning Broadway musical chronicles the women's suffrage movement and the passage of the 19th Amendment. Greenville County was selected as one of only twelve educational programs nationwide to receive the inaugural "SUFFS: The Young Are at the Gates" Grant.
The grant was created through a partnership between the Educational Theatre Foundation (ETF), Music Theatre International (MTI) and Tony Award-winning creator Shaina Taub. It is designed to bring the musical to select student performers before its general release to schools nationwide. Selected programs submitted proposals demonstrating how they would connect the production to meaningful community engagement and educational outreach.
"This opportunity is about so much more than producing a musical," he said. "Our students are telling a story that changed the course of American history. To be one of only twelve programs in the nation selected for this grant is an incredible honor. We are especially excited to share this production with our community free of charge and to make this important story accessible to everyone."
The production will be presented July 7, 8 and 9, at at Greenville High School. Performances begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public. While admission is free, tickets are required due to limited seating.
