Hello everyone, and welcome to GreerNews! My name is Breanna Laws, and I’m a reporter. In my work, I’ll be bringing the latest on the news, government and culture of Greer straight to you here, on GreerNews.com.

Part of my job is to help members of the community tell their stories. In exchange for the stories so graciously entrusted to me, I’ll tell you a bit of my own. I grew up in a small town called Roaring River, North Carolina, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. 

This past May, I graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a double minor in journalism and linguistics. This June, I made the move from my home state to right outside of Greer’s beloved Trade Street. A couple of months later, I have the privilege of writing to you all as your local news writer. 

Greer has been a wonderfully welcoming community, and I am incredibly excited to learn more about my new home through my reporting. I know this town will serve me in many ways, but more importantly, I look forward to how I can serve it in my work. 

Journalism, at its core, is a community-building exercise. It’s about staying up-to-date on the news so you can be an informed citizen, too, but this only scratches the surface. It’s also about finding local events or seeing your alma mater’s football standings. It’s about learning the history behind the town diner, or that your favorite waitress is an avid beekeeper. 

While I know I am new to the industry, I hope that I can use my work as a way to build a stronger, more connected Greer. I also look forward to becoming more connected to the town myself as I continue to live and grow here.
