The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) has begun the first phase of its Runway Rehabilitation Project, leading to some closures.
The airport plans to repave 6,500 feet of Runway 4/22 and completely repave the runway’s shoulders by the end of the year. Phase one began on Monday, with nightly runway closures from 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Since Runway 4/22 is the only runway at GSP, complete airport closures are unavoidable when the runway is down. The nightly closures are expected to continue through early September, and future phases will include full weekend closures at the airport. Airport officials say they analyzed travel patterns to determine the dates and times that would cause the least disruption to its operations.
Here’s a look at the full project schedule:
Phase One: July 27 – Sept. 4
Three months of night work, with runway closures from 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
Phase Two: Sept. 11-13, and Sept. 18-20
Two weekend closures. Both weekend closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and end at 8 a.m. on Monday.
Phase Three: Sept. 14 – Nov. 12
Three months of night work, with runway closures from 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
