The Spartanburg District Five Schools Board of Trustees recently approved a second guaranteed maximum price for Lightwood Crossing Elementary School, set to open in 2028 in the southern end of the district.Â
The approval came at the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Oct. 26. This project is under the $200 million bond referendum that passed last November, aimed at alleviating overcrowding concerns.
According to district officials, the second pricing package covers construction costs of the school building and its playgrounds. Its guaranteed maximum price came to $49,809,682, which the Board approved unanimously.
The Board also considered multiple amendments to board policy at its meeting. The amendments included establishing a formal process for board member removal, updating payroll procedures and adopting administrative rules for paid parental leave for professional and support staff.
The Board approved the amendments unanimously.
The Board also voted to elect a delegate to the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) Legislative Advocacy Conference in December. Trustees unanimously approved board member Mark Cleveland to be the representative.
