James Robert Berka, 84, passed away at his home on October 3, 2026. He was the son of the late Charles and Frances Herrschaft Berka and a loving husband of 15 years to Judy Hipp Berka.
James was a devoted father, a proud military officer, and a graduate of Hofstra University in Long Island, NY. He served his country proudly as a First Lieutenant during the Vietnam era and his commitment and dedication was recognized with a Bronze Star. Aside from his military service, James was proud of his children. He loved them deeply and would often brag about their accomplishments. James was kind, loyal, devoted, and a genuinely good man who touched the lives of many.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Gregory Berka (Heather) and Kristin Kehl (Jarrod); grandchildren, Townsend Charles Berka, Brooks William Berka, Julianna Grace Kehl, Makenzie Hope Kehl, and Kayleigh Faith Kehl; step-son, Jamie Walter Hannah (Nikki); step-grandchildren, Landry Olivia Hannah and Rowan Kate Hannah; as well as many other nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Berka; siblings, Teddy and Ronald; and step-son, Andy James Hannah.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 10 at Living Waters Funeral Home and Crematory. A celebration of life will begin at 1 p.m. Larry Teachey will officiate.
