Melanie “Mel” Anne Reid passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026.
She was the loving wife of Michael Ferguson.
Melanie was predeceased by her parents, Marie Tumolo and Robert Schleifer.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Julia Honcher, and her beloved furbabies, Dude and Dixie.
Mel was retired from her career as a dedicated social worker with the state of South Carolina. However, after retirement, she continued graciously volunteering her time anywhere it was needed. Most recently, she helped at First Baptist's, "The Bridge Ministry Center," even up to her last weeks. She had a heart for the homeless, visiting nursing home residents and animal rescue. She loved the beach, reading and spending time with her family, friends, and her dogs. Mel will be remembered for her incredibly generous spirit, a love of people and animals, and a lifelong commitment to making the world a little kinder through her love of Jesus Christ.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 9 at Living Waters Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to "Animal Allies Spay and Neuter Clinic".
