Eastside volleyball was encouraged by a solid transition to 5-A volleyball last season.

In 2024, the Lady Eagles finished in the top half of 5-A Region 2, behind only Dorman, Riverside, and Byrnes — three talented teams.

This year, Eastside wants more.

With 18 eager players on the team — five more than last year’s roster — head coach Kady Cellamare believes her Lady Eagles can improve on their 2024 finish.

“This year, we’re going to be a lot more familiar with some of these teams in our region,” said Cellamare. “And the fact that we will have 18 girls on our roster, that gives us some longevity we didn’t have last season. I think we got a little fatigued toward the end of last year. This year, we’ll have different options everywhere.”

Eastside will be led this season by senior Jaden Walker and junior Sophia Lowery, among others. Both Walker and Lowery have high hopes for what their Lady Eagles can accomplish in 2025.

“The mindset from everyone this year coming into the gym was the fact that we all want to win,” said Walker. “We want to do what it takes to be in that position at the end of the season. It’s a collective mindset.”

“With this being our second year in 5-A, I think since we are at such a high level of competition, we’ve all been really locked in,” said Lowery. “It was huge for us to be in the playoffs last year, but now I feel like our perspective is much bigger. We want more.”

Cellamare says making the playoffs last year was a big achievement for the Lady Eagles. This time around, however, it’s about getting out of the first round and making a deeper run.

She thinks the Lady Eagles have the talent to do it.

“Getting into the playoffs last year was a huge deal for us,” said Cellamare. “But I feel like going into this year, I look at some of our girls in the front row and our heavy hitters, and I can really see us getting to the second round of the playoffs and potentially onward.”
