Riverside High School is set to host the first-ever Warrior Classic Christmas basketball tournament on Friday, Dec. 19 and Saturday, Dec. 20.

Eight teams will be participating in the tournament, including Riverside, J.L. Mann, Legacy Early College, Wade Hampton, Chapman, and St. Joseph’s from South Carolina, while two teams from Tennessee — Knox West and Unaka — round out the field of eight.

Two separate brackets of four teams will be used for the field, and two separate bracket champions will be crowned.

“We’ve got some really good games on the bracket,” said Riverside head coach Allen Arnold. “Lots of really well-coached, talented teams will be loaded up in this tournament. It’s exciting to see, especially for the first year.”

Arnold says he has wanted to host a tournament at Riverside ever since he took the job seven years ago. This year, he says, it all fell into place.

“I love hosting tournaments,” said Arnold. “I’ve done it before at other schools, but this is the first time I’ve been able to do it here. We got a committee and some parents together and laid it all out. We’ve also got some great sponsors helping make it happen.

“It’s going to be a fun weekend of basketball.”

Tickets are $8 per day and are good for all four games each day. Cash or GoFan are accepted.
