Have you ever been on a treasure hunt? This Saturday, you have an excuse to look for hidden objects all over Greer and the Upstate region.
It’s called geocaching — a real-life, outdoor treasure-hunting game. Players from around the world hide containers, called caches, with logbooks inside for other players to sign when they find them. All caches are hidden in some way, but will never be buried.
This Saturday is International Geocaching Day, which celebrates the hobby worldwide. In Greer, there are just over 10 traditional geocaches and a small number of mystery caches. Mystery caches are caches where players must solve some sort of puzzle in order to find them.
I found one myself, a cache named “Hole in the Wall” near Greer City Stadium. If anyone wishes to follow suit, know that the name is the hint. You might even see a friendly stray white cat walking by. My recommendation: go during the day to avoid bugs.
If you decide to go geocaching this Friday, please be advised not to put yourself in danger by entering any restricted areas or searching on the roads.
New players can find caches near them on the official geocaching website. Happy hunting!
