Following the death of the Republican Party nominee for U.S. Senate in the 2026 General Election, a special filing period and special primary will be held to replace the party’s nominee in accordance with S.C. Code of Laws 7-11-55. 

The filing period for candidates will open at noon on Tuesday, July 21 and close at noon on Tuesday, July 28. A special primary will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, with a runoff, if necessary, held on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The nominee selected through this process will appear on the 2026 General Election ballot.

Important Dates and Deadlines for Voters:

  • Deadline to Apply for an Absentee Ballot: Friday, July 31

  • Early Voting for Special Primary: Wednesday, Aug. 5, through Friday, Aug. 7 

  • Special Primary: Tuesday, Aug. 11

  • Early Voting for Special Primary Runoff (if necessary): Wednesday, Aug. 19, through Friday, Aug. 21

  • Statewide Special Primary Runoff (if necessary): Tuesday, Aug. 25
