Two former council members have filed for the Lyman Town Council Special Election, occurring in February 2026.

Rick Hellams and Greg Wood, both of whom have held terms on council, will be the candidates in this special election. The election will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 10, aiming to fill an unexpired term for the seat left vacant by David Petty.

Following the Nov. 4 General Election, Petty was elected to the town’s mayoral seat, vacating his council seat to take on the role. That race also saw the election of council members Adam Crisp, Phil McIntyre and Cindy Behm. Behm is the only non-incumbent elected in this cycle, narrowly beating Hellams.

To vote in the special election in February, residents must be registered to vote no later than Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026. Voter Registration by Mail forms will be accepted if postmarked no later than Monday, Jan. 12, 2026.

Registered voters who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. For more information, contact the Spartanburg County Voter Registration & Elections Office at (864) 596-2549.
