RHS loses to GVL photo

Riverside boys basketball's historic season came to a close on Friday night, as the Warriors fell to Greenville 55-47 in the 5-A D2 Upper State Championship.

Greenville jumped out to a 16-point lead in the first half, and though the Warriors cut it all the way down to just one in the fourth quarter, turnovers doomed Riverside late in the game.

"We preached about adversity at halftime, and they responded to it well," said Riverside head coach Allen Arnold. "I was proud of that. We started out slow, but to get it back to a close game there in the end, it shows the fight this team has."

Riverside's historic season ends with a 25-4 record, a region championship, and a berth in the upper state championship.

The graduating senior class for the Warriors, one that includes all-state senior Sebi Boyogueno, is one of the most successful in Riverside history. The senior Warriors have been a part of an upper state title-winning team, as well as making another upper state championship this season.

"This season class has spent all four years on varsity, and the way they've grown, I'm just so proud," said Arnold. "They're about to begin a new journey in life, and I just hope we've done a good job preparing them for the real world."

After the Red Raiders jumped out to a big lead in the first half, the Warriors crawled back into the game led by Holden Koss, Huck Flinn, and Boyogueno. But six turnovers in the game's final four minutes proved too much for the Warriors to overcome.

Greenville moves onto the 5-A D2 State Championship for the second year in a row. The Red Raiders won the title last season.
