The Spartanburg County Pet Resource Center (PRC) and the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office are hosting a community pet food drive to support local families in need. Residents are encouraged to donate wet or dry dog and cat food at the Sheriff's Office on March 20 and March 27. The PRC pantry provides food for nearly 200 pets each month and is expected to grow once the new facility opens.

The Greer Police Department is investigating a report of animal cruelty after a woman's cat was allegedly tortured and killed by a group of juveniles. The cat, named Ginger, was allegedly stolen in late February, and its deceased body was returned to the owner's residence in March. The police department's Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating the matter.

Spartanburg County is launching its 2026 Summer Internship Program, providing 100 paid, hands-on opportunities for high school and college students across various career fields. The eight-week program, running from June 1 to July 31, 2026, will offer positions in at least 14 different County departments, including administration, public safety, infrastructure, and community services. The program aims to prepare local students for future careers while strengthening the region's talent pipeline. Participants will earn $12 per hour.

AFL has donated $1 million to the Middle Tyger Community Center (MTCC) to help fund the construction of a new family services and childcare center in Duncan, S.C. The donation is the inaugural gift from the AFL Foundation, which was established in 2024 with an initial investment of $10 million to commemorate AFL's 40th anniversary. AFL has supported MTCC through 33 grants and sponsorships totaling more than $277,000, including its first counseling grant in 2011. AFL associates regularly volunteer and contribute to MTCC's annual Thanksgiving food and Christmas toy drives, demonstrating a deep, ongoing investment in the well-being of the community.

Pamela Booke Schronce, owner of the Thomas and Turner Boutique in Belton, has been arrested for the third time on charges related to her business. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office received two separate reports from victims who made purchases for which they never received the merchandise or a refund. Schronce was arrested on two counts of Obtaining Property Under False Pretenses and has been released after posting bond. Similar cases are currently under investigation throughout the Upstate.

Spartanburg County in South Carolina has launched a new Vision Zero Dashboard to provide residents, media, and stakeholders with a clearer look at roadway safety information, crash trends, and improvement efforts across the county. The county led the state in traffic fatalities in 2025, and is committed to reducing severe and fatal traffic-related injuries. The dashboard is designed to improve transparency, increase community awareness, and support safer travel by helping the public better understand and prevent roadway hazards.

Due to Winter Storm Gianna, several city and county offices, as well as schools in Greer, will be closed or on a delayed schedule. All Greenville County offices will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday, Feb. 2, while all Spartanburg County offices will be closed. Greenville County Schools and Spartanburg District Five Schools will operate on an e-learning schedule for Monday.

The candidate filing period for the Inman City Council special election is open until Feb. 2. Candidates must pay a $50 filing fee and submit a Statement of Intention of Candidacy. County officials advise candidates to complete their filing prior to the weekend due to potential winter weather.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation will close and detour Gary Armstrong Road in Spartanburg County from January 28 to March 13, weather permitting, for a roundabout project. Drivers are advised to slow down and pay attention to signs and crews in the area. A detour map is available.
