Bill Rhyne was sworn into office on Friday, Oct. 7, as the Spartanburg County Sheriff. The ceremony was held in the County Courthouse, following a summer of campaigning in a special election for Rhyne. Rhyne also swore in his command staff on Friday, including Spartanburg County’s first-ever female command staff member.

Angel Marie Willis, 19, and Jorge Armando Cano Jr., 24, have been charged in connection with a Woodruff shooting incident that left one dead. Deputies at the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office say that this is an ongoing investigation.

Preston Young and Branna Moore have been arrested following an investigation by the Spartanburg County Narcotics Unit. Moore’s residence, according to the Sheriff’s Office, served as the hub for Young’s drug distribution.

An Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation conducted by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of Theron Robert Littlefield of Lyman. Littlefield is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution in Delaware as a Fugitive from Justice, pending extradition to South Carolina.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Dudley Paul Bishop in connection with an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation. Dudley has been charged with luring a child and criminal solicitation of a minor. The investigation remains active.

The special primary elections for Spartanburg County Sheriff and County Council District 3 will take place on August 5, with polling stations around the county. Voters will need to provide a photo ID at their polling place, and polls will be open from 7 am to 7 pm. The sheriff position became vacant when Chuck Wright resigned in May, and all candidates running for the position are registered under the Republican Party. The candidates include Robert J. Cheeks, Andy Clark, Rusty Clevenger, Adam Crisp, Nick Duncan, Randy Hollifield, Joseph A. Pilato, Bill Rhyne, and Ric Stephens.
